Our Curriculum

In keeping with the Brandywine School mission, the academically-based curriculum at each level is carefully planned to support the growth of the individual child through meaningful and challenging experiences across the five developmental domains of early childhood education:

Core Classes

 

Each core class incorporates instructional strategies that build upon skills within each domain to positively impact the development and learning of the individual child.

Playgroup
Play, one of the most important activities of childhood, is the foundation of this nurturing and supportive classroom.
  • Age: 2 years by March 31st
  • Class Size: 10
Threes
Independence, a defining trait of the three-year-old, is inspired through learning opportunities that develop confidence.
  • Age: 3 years by September 1st
  • Class Size: 10
Young Fours
Imagination and curiosity flourish in four-year-olds and the curriculum promotes hands-on learning.
  • Age: 4 years by December 31st
  • Class Size: 12
AM Pre-K
Morning learners continue to enhance their skills through play and academics in their final year of preschool.
  • Age: 4 years by September 1st
  • Class Size: 14
PM Pre-K
Afternoon learners continue to enhance their skills through play and academics in their final year of preschool.
  • Age: 4 years by September 1st
  • Class Size: 14
Weekly Specials

The core curriculum is augmented with lessons prepared and taught by teachers that are experts in their field.

Art

Develops creative expression, tactile awareness, color discrimination and visual memory and encourages students to take pride in their work.

Music and Movement

Teaches auditory recognition and memory skills and develops an appreciation for music through singing, playing simple instruments, and listening to songs.

Science and Nature

Introduces environmental awareness and responsibility while interacting with the world through pictures, stories, and live animal guests.

Yoga

Encourages self-expression and relaxation through the basic principles of yoga, including breathing and stretching techniques.

Enrichment Programs

Brandywine School enables young students to expand their horizons through a variety of Enrichment Programs.

Lunch Options

Discovery themed-activities introduce students to the amazing world around them.
Who: Threes and Young Fours
When: Young Fours – Mondays 11:30 am – 1:30 pm
Threes – Tuesdays & Wednesdays 11:30 am – 12:30 pm

Fun Fridays

Engaging games that hone cognitive and fine/gross motor skills keep the wheels turning.
Who: All Classes
When: Friday – 11:30 am  – 1:30 pm

Extended Day

Expanding on the core curriculum, students are challenged to think critically and creatively during a variety of activities and special projects.
Who: AM Pre-K
When: Monday and Wednesday – 11:30 am – 1:30 pm
* Pack a lunch

Creative Kids

Imagination and inventiveness are encouraged in a relaxed, less structured atmosphere.
Who: Young Fours and All Pre-K
When: Thursday – 9:00 – 11:30 am
* Snack included

STEAM

Experimentation and guided learning are used to introduce students to science, technology, engineering, art and math.
Who: All Pre-K
When: Tuesday – 11:30 am – 1:30 PM
